Ganesh Chaturthi turned out to be quite sour for seven students of St Xaviers School in Jaipur. The school authorities suspended the students for 20 days for offering Puja to Lord Ganesha in their classroom.
It was quite a ludicrous move by the school authorities… and the news of this utterly preposterous incident spread faster than a flesh eating bacteria on Mars… and chaos ensued. Parents of the suspended students confounded by the incident dialed a few hotline numbers. 10 minutes later more than 200 angry young men from the the youth wing of BJP, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) loaded with stones and expletives let fly at the school and broke a few windows. The police later arrived and branded six BJYM supporters as jailbirds.
St Xavier’s is one of the oldest and very well respected schools in Rajasthan… and this ugly incident has turned its 70 year old squeaky clean reputation to coal soot. The principal of the school said that some students had put up a poster of Lord Ganesha, and that this was a sinful thing because the school is supposedly a school and not a temple.
Shankar Agarwal, father of one of the suspended students said, “We kept on pleading with the school Father that he needed to take mild action as the students hadn’t done anything unethical”
“We requested that students shouldn’t be punished so severely. But when the authorities did not budge, we were forced to call political parties,”
We really don’t need any more religious friction in India… the ugly incidents at Godhra and more recently at Jammu are enough for a lifetime.
School run by christians is not it?
This school s sure managed by christians. They use all kinds of chroswtian festivals, religious songs and pcitures but dont want oher religions to be metnioned. It is double standard. The school management should be fined atleast Rs 1 million.WE do agree that school should be secular place but secular in India means non hindu.Sic!
i agree with u.In our
i agree with u.In our country, people cant say Hindu,Put Hindu related posters, lest they be branded as fanatics but others like christians can go on ,preach thier things to children in the name of education and exploit our culture, brain wash our minds we cant do anything. There should be a change but will it happen. No one even a Hindu politician can help us becuase these minority schools have made a niche of themselves of exploiting the counstituional rights provided to them.Sick.Those were given in good spirit of co existience but these people exploit in the best way to preach at the cost of Hindus in thier own country.Wake up to stop this hypocrites
Temples in class room
If those students are interested in temple related issues, they as well do it their father's office or at their own home. Why should they study, as well become Temple priest or political leaders.
It is better, the school authorities shut down the school for ever. Let those children study in Hindu schools and have pooja anytime.
